Health for Women

Develop a Healthy Relationship, With You

doctors bag Women's health issues vary from woman to woman. We practically carry the world on our shoulders, caring for our children, work, running a household, supporting our spouses, family members and other outside obligations, it’s tough.

We are givers by nature—it’s the way God made us. However, in the process of all this giving we are losing the fight when it comes to taking care of our health.

My dad was a career Navy man, so growing up we had access to quality health care. My mother made sure that we received all our regular exams and vaccinations. Those frequent trips to the base clinic as a kid is probably why I never developed a fear of doctors. It also made me appreciate the benefits of preventive care.

Most people, specifically women don’t take time out to take care of themselves until it’s too late. However, if you don’t start now, you will find yourself fighting an uphill battle later on.

However, heart disease and cancer are still the leading killers among women, especially as we get older. Are you a multi-tasking-superwoman? Then it may be time to hang up your cape. Fatigue is the single biggest complaint that doctors hear from women.

Getting less than seven hours of sleep a night will eventually catch up with you, especially as we age. However, if you do get the recommended amount of rest and are still experiencing fatigue, you may have anything from anemia to an under active thyroid condition.

Assuming that we all have the same medical issues can prove to be deadly. One of the biggest mistakes that most doctors make when is comes to women is mis-diagnosis. Information leads to empowerment.

Do your research and present your findings to your physician, and don’t be afraid to speak up, ask questions—challenge them to think beyond their typical hypothesis. Building a trusting relationship with your doctor and keeping the lines of communication open is critical when it comes to managing your health.

The key is to invest in as much preventive care as possible. Stay informed, eat a healthy balanced diet, exercise and get regular checkups. Consult a doctor if you feel you may have a serious condition as soon as possible.
