Women and Relationships

Women and relationships, they take on a whole new meaning when we get older. Spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, associates, children, no matter what the connection, we pour everything into keeping the bonds intact.

However, as we get older, the nature of these unions can change dramatically. In my case it was a divorce. The breakup of my marriage affected all my friendships, some ended, some began. Some I outgrew, and some I grew into. My girlfriends became my support group, my baby sister became more like my big sister and my children became my mini pep squad.

Everything from dating to marriage changes when you turn a certain age; we are older and wiser. We have been to the “dance,” we know all the songs and the order in which they are played. We know what we want, and aren’t afraid to ask for it.

Our circle of close friends gets smaller, while the outer circle gets larger. That is because we are able to discern which relationships will add value and which ones will subtract. You want to always connect with people that will help you evolve, not stunt your growth.

Look at who you associate yourself with. If you are surrounded by people who don’t nurture your spirit, it may be time to “clean house.”

Relationships can either create bonds or bondage. The challenge is being able to tell the difference.
