Lipstick Tips: Maintaning the
Perfect Pucker

Lipstick, the one beauty item that most women can’t live without; in fact I still remember my first tube of lipstick, Burgundy Berry. I bought it from Zayre’s department store when I was 14. For those who don’t know, Zayres was like the Target/Kohl’s of the 80s.

When I went to school on Monday with my new lips, you couldn’t tell me that I wasn’t the cutest thing in the 10th grade that day. Most of us women have this same kind of kindred bond with our favorite lipstick. I know some women who will only buy one specific brand and some who only wear one particular shade.

And why not, lipstick is fun. With just a simple stroke it can brighten a mood or dramatically change a look. No other makeup can boast that kind of power.

The following are just a few little known tips that will keep the
lip love fest going

  • Storing lipstick in the refrigerator will make it last longer
  • Using lip liner as a base for your lipstick will help your color last longer
  • To avoid harsh contrasts, use a liner color that closely matches your skin when wearing lighter colored lipsticks
  • Apply lip gloss before you apply your lipstick. This will prevent your lipstick from tinting or changing your lip gloss color
  • Lipstick can be used as blush, but don’t use blush as lipstick
  • Mixing and blending colors allows you to create new shades and gives new life to shades you may be bored with or don’t like
  • Filling your lips with liner first will give your gloss something to stick to, allowing it to last longer

  • If your lipstick breaks, slightly melt the bottom of the broken part with a match then re-attach it to the base. Swivel down the tip and place in the refrigerator uncapped for five minutes
  • Try to avoid lipsticks in brown and orange shades, as they may make your teeth appear yellow
  • Highlight lips with color coordinated eye shadow. Just apply a light touch to the center of both your upper and lower lips
  • Your lips, just like your face benefits from daily exfoliation, lightly rubbing your lips with a washcloth before applying lip color gives you a smoother finish
  • Conceal lip lines by applying lipstick vertically to lips
  • For a perfect finish, always use a lip brush to apply lipstick
