Makeup Tips for Older Women Please Make Me Over
I have always loved makeup, back in college my favorite lip color was Wet n’ Wild #521, it was a frosted fuchsia blend with undertones of blue and violet. And since this was the 80s,
I felt that it was only fitting that I wear the purple and Mediterranean blue eye shadow to match.
Well I am glad to say that those days are far behind me—except for the occasional girlfriend reunion where all our old pictures are put on display for public ridicule. As the single mother of two children, I’ve learned that less is definitely more, especially when you have less and less time to do more.
Too much makeup ages older skin, so it’s important that we learn how to correctly apply it so that it enhances the beauty of our mature features and not detract. The following are a few tips to keep your makeup flawless.
Foundation
Make sure that you use a light-textured base that matches your skin tone. Makeup companies are really doing a good job at offering foundations and concealers in a variety of shades and tones to suit every ethic group.
Powder
Use a loose translucent powder with a brush to set and touch-up. Frequently re-applying makeup with a cosmetic pad can cause it to settle into creases, accentuating fine lines and wrinkles.
Blush
Apply with a fluffy brush and use broad strokes extending from the round of your cheek to your hairline. Always opt for soft subtle colors that compliment your skin tone.

Lipstick
Soft colors like berry, coral and peach can make thinner lips appear fuller. A touch of gloss adds a light sparkle to lifeless lips. The new lip plumbers are fantastic; aside from the initial numbing they are great for giving your pucker a luscious lift.
Lip Liner
Stick with colors that blend with your lip shade. Nothing says “Bozo the Clown” more than the lining of the lips with black liner. I don’t know how this trend started but let’s put it to rest now! That goes for women of all ages.
Shadow
Warm colors that enhance your skin and eye color should always be the rule. However, frosted shadows can actually make you look younger, but please use with caution. Too much can make you look like an over-the-hill Vegas Showgirl.
Eye Liner
Like I stated earlier, I grew up in the 80’s, black-lined eyes were my trademark. However, raccoon eyes weren’t, and shouldn’t be for anyone over 40. I now take a lighter approach to my eye liner. When I line my lids I slightly smudge the top lid (for a softer look) and line only the inside of my bottom lid.
The most important tip is to always keep it simple. Makeup should be used as an enhancement, not a crutch. And for women, who prefer not to wear makeup, little things like keeping your eyebrows arched, your smile bright and your skin soft and supple will add a luminous glow to your natural beauty. Remember to always use a good moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15, watch your diet and drink plenty of water to help retain that healthy radiance.
Eyebrows, Creating the Perfect Arch
Perfectly manicured eyebrows can change your look dramatically. However, it’s still one of the most overlooked and over done facial features.
Makeup Success
The marvelous thing about beauty is that no matter how you look naturally, with the right techniques you can improve yourself. Learn how to apply makeup the way the professionals do in the privacy of your own home.
Lipstick, Maintaining the Perfect Pucker
Lipstick, the one beauty item that most women can’t live without; in fact I still remember my first tube of lipstick—Burgundy Berry. I bought it from Zayre’s department store when I was 14.
