Women and Thinning Hair A Thin Line
When it comes to thinning hair in women, sometimes we are our own worst enemies. With all the perming, coloring, hot-curling and blow-drying that we do to our hair, it’s a miracle that we have any at all. However, some of it's not our fault. As we get older, our hair changes and in some cases it begins to thin out. No longer considered just a man’s issue, most women by the age of 50 begin to experience some degree of thinning hair or loss. If you notice that your hair is thinning don’t worry, there are many options available to help you overcome this follicle dilemma.
Shorter hair cuts above the shoulder work best to camouflage the problem. However depending on your texture and style you may have to opt for a different approach. Curly hair should be cut in layers; wavy hair mid-length or longer, and straight hair can be layered or cut into a blunt hairstyle for more volume. Another problem that thinning hair may cause, that many older women don’t notice until it is too late, is sunburn on the scalp. Look for conditioners with sun block or apply one separately before styling while the hair is still wet. Always remember to keep your head protected while out in the sun with either a hat or scarf.
Some women have opted to take it one step further and take it all off. Whether by choice or by an unfortunate circumstance or illness such as cancer, many women have decided to just go with the flow and really go “natural.”
Bold, confident and definitely on the cutting edge, women with bald heads or buzz cuts are making more than just a statement with their shaved style
Typically portrayed as warriors or sci-fi vigilantes in movies and television, women with bald heads always appear asexual or masculine. However, brazen diva Grace Jones and runway model Alec Wek have shown us that shaved heads are not only feminine, but fashionable.
Whichever way you decide to address the issue, know that you have options. Sometimes it can be as simple as changing your shampoo, conditioner or trying a thinning hair treatment like Rogaine. Working with different styles, cuts, wigs and hair extensions are also great choices. Remember to always consult a doctor if you feel that you have a more serious condition.
